Our Story
Citizens Watch Ghana is a non-political, non-governmental charitable organization working in the Bono, Upper East and Upper West Regions of Ghana. It was first established and registered with the Registrar General’s Department in 2009 as the Women and Youth Support Centre (WYSC).
During its strategic review in 2019, the Women and Youth Support Centre was renamed Citizens Watch Ghana as part of revitalizing its brand.
CWGH is currently registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee, with registration number CG020782019 and TIN C00021708894, and is recognized by the Department of Social Welfare as a Charitable Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
Citizens Watch Ghana is currently positioned as an advocacy organization representing the voiceless and partnering with communities in Ghana in demanding accountability and transparency in the delivery of public services that impact the lives of the disadvantaged.
Over the years – formerly known as the Women and Youth Support Centre (WYSC) – the organization has built a reputation for credibility and effectiveness across many communities in Ghana. Many vulnerable groups have benefited from the projects implemented across the country. Our existence since 2009 has provided a working relationship for our communities and a strong partnership with many stakeholders and other civil society platforms in the country.
The organization’s current strategic goal is to represent the voiceless by empowering communities to become vibrant in demanding accountability from duty bearers in developing their communities. High illiteracy rates and political victimization remain impediments, preventing many citizens from being part of the decision-making process in contributing to nation-building.
We are engaged in formal partnerships with various charitable organizations and national actors. “Partner” describes the collaborative approach at the center of our model. Our focus on collaborative and strategic partnerships is built on our belief that the challenges the world faces today require comprehensive, holistic, and coordinated responses. No person or organization can effect sufficient change alone — so we harness the knowledge and skills of academic experts, partner organizations, and local and international community members.
